These markets, for a variety of reasons, have been reduced, but as often happens, for every door that closes, another opens.
For many years, Tapco had been producing its ‘Inspire’ resin bonded, crushed virgin limestone artificial slate in the U.S., and in 2009/10, Tapco introduced this product, renamed TapcoSlate, to the UK marketplace.
There have been many attempts and Brands in this particular industry over the years. Some have departed, others are still with us, but TapcoSlate, by virtue of its authentic appearance and many other benefits, has managed to find an ongoing niche within the Slate market… particularly with self builders, churches and other refurbishment, cricket clubs, and schools, etc.
Sales rose swiftly from an initial £200k in the first year to what is now a multi-million pound industry, fed by a constant stream of containers from the factory in the United States.
Sales were given an additional flip in 2012/13 with the advent of the new trend for converting conservatories into year-round useable rooms. Polycarbonate and glass became things of the past as consumers sought aesthetically pleasing lightweight solutions.
There are still many who remain unaware of the benefits of Tapcoslate, but the gospel is spreading.
