Ben, who is 4, absolutely loves playing word and spelling games. It’s one of my favourite things to do with him as well. We were sent a set of some new games to try from Cartamundi Fundels, including a Writing Letters game, and we also have a set to give away.
Cartamundi Fundels Writing Letters
The Writing Letters premium game we tried is for 2-4 players and is suggested for children aged 5 and over, although Ben coped well with all of the words we played with. It’s really easy to adapt to the amount of time you have available (or how long you can concentrate for) by limiting the number of word cards you deal.

The game itself helps with spelling, recognising letters, reading and writing. The words are simple and accessible. The only tiny criticism I would have is that all the letters are capital letters, but children do have to use both capital and lower case so that is less of a problem than I originally thought. It’s also based on the KS1 curriculum, so that’s brilliant.
On a more practical note, the game comes in a really sturdy plastic case. I love this, as it means there’s no risk of losing the cards, and it would be great for taking on holiday.
Cartamundi Fundels Learn to Draw game
We also tried the ‘Learn to Draw’ card game. This is one of their standard games. Tim tried this with Ben (drawing his more his forte) and was really impressed with the detailed instruction on each card. He was particularly impressed with the dragon! Ben was really focused with this activity and loved trying to draw a bike and seeing how each picture was made up of different shapes.
