Buxton International Festival is a magnet for music-lovers across the world, attracting thousands of visitors to the historic spa town and its magnificent Opera House.
This year’s Festival takes place from 7th-23rd July and offers a treasure trove of opera, music and talks. The operatic programme is always a highlight and this year’s offering includes Verdi’s Macbeth (opening night 7th July), Benjamin Britten’s Albert Herring (opening night 8th July), Mozart’s Lucio Silla (opening night 9th July) and Y T?r (opening night 17th July), which is the only performance of this new Welsh language opera outside of Wales.
Macbeth’s eerie tale of murder and destiny contrasts with Albert Herring, Britten’s comic tale about replacing a May Queen with a King as none of the village girls live up to local bigwig Lady Billows’ standards!
