For city fans there’s the endless appeal of Bangkok, Thailand’s ever bustling capital, and its proliferation of traditional and modern attractions.
Get to understand Thailand’s unique culture via a visit to The Grand Palace, the utmost architectural symbol of Thailand. It served as a significant royal residence until 1925 and is now used for ceremonial purposes only.
For culture vultures, a trip to Chiang Rai should be on the cards, including the Wat Rong Khun temple, often known as the White Temple – a stunning, unconventional, contemporary art exhibit in the style of a Buddhist temple, complete with murals depicting demon faces interspersed with western idols such as Michael Jackson and Superman!
Alternatively, at Chiang Mai there’s the Wat Chedi Luang Temple, completed in 1481 during the reign of King Mengrai, and home to Chiang Mai’s largest Buddhist chedi at 98 meters tall and 54 meters in diameter.
Chiang Mai also hosts the spirited and lively Yi Peng lantern festival in November, with its timed release of thousands of beautifully coloured, candle lit lanterns into the sky.
