In bloom in spring
There are carpets of beautiful bulbs across the grass and in containers – snowdrops, cyclamen, daffodils, grape hyacinths, tulips.
Anemones, primroses and other woodland plants are in flower. Camellias are so beautiful in spring. There is golden yellow forsythia. There are magnolias.
Members of the Cherry family break into frothy blossom, and the pink and white apple blossom is always glorious in April and May. The lilac is lovely too.
And what’s in bloom in summer?Hardy geraniums carry the flower baton forward through early summer when the garden is catching its breath. Other perennials help out: Siberian irises, Hattie’s pincushion, London pride, Granny’s bonnet. For bulbs there are camassia and alliums, then lilies and gladioli.
Roses are wonderful throughout June and July. There is lavender. A flush of annuals – cosmos, sweet peas, petunias, lobelia, sunflowers. Dahlias, cannas, crocosmia and day lilies add glamour. Oh, and hydrangeas – in pink, white or blue.
So many flowers!
