Paris-born author Antoine Laurain has enjoyed international recognition for his books The President’s Hat and French Rhapsody. He wrote his first novel, The Portrait, which is being published for the first time in English, while he was working as an assistant for an antiques dealer. the painting, but none of his friends or family sees any resemblance.

As Chaumont decides to research the painting’s history, he is given the opportunity to transform his life completely. Written, like many of Laurain’s later novels, in a light and witty tone, The Portrait is an entertaining read with unique characters and offering a pleasant glimpse of life in Paris.
